Currently reading

Right now I'm reading a novel by Jeffrey Deaver called "Cold Moon" (I'd underline all of these titles but I don't have that option on the menu bar). It's a murder mystery with the criminalist Lyncoln Rhyme who appears in many of his stories. It's funny, I would think that I'd have more time during the summer to read but I think not having a structured schedule that I follow I have less time to read. I have to start adjusting my schedule now just like I do for my kids. Earlier to bed and earlier to rise so when school starts it's not such a shock to the system. I hope you are finding some good books to read this summer.

I've been reading a lot this summer to get ready for school this fall...

I read "Shipwreck at the Bottom of the World" I couldn't put it down I'm very excited to share this book with my students.

I read "Lily's Crossing" by Patricia Reilly Giff

"Woodsong" by Gary Paulsen

"Peak" and "Soul Surfer" are the two that are next on my list. I've heard great things about both of these books and can't wait to lose myself in them.

Clues

I love teaching reading and get very excited about the books that my sixth graders will get to experience this year. We will start by reading a book together in class. I am going to give you some clues and see if you can figure out what book we'll be reading.

1. The author's initials are B.M.

2. The story takes place in Minnesota and Alaska

3. The main character is a boy in high school

4. The book is about a bully and the consequences of his actions

Class Lists

I had an opportunity yesterday to see the lists of students that will be in my classes this fall. I've been teaching for 16 years and would think the excitement about returning to school would lessen but it doesn't. I still get the butterflies and the anxiety that I got as a student when I think about returning to school. The new gradebook we were working with yesterday allowed us to look at student pctures as we perused our class lists. What a special treat to put faces with the names of this years students. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy summer off but I am always ready to head back to the classroom in the fall and see all those uncertain faces that will become smiles full of energy and enthusiasm for beginning the middle school experience.
